What is your goal ? 50 devices or 5000 ?

I would think you get the best performance from ubuntu. But logicly it also depends on where you host your server. A relative cheap vps would do the job.
I would like to use a free tier of an aws instance. There is one that uses Ubuntu, I'll try that one. Thank you so much
