The forum is for everyone, not just me.
Now that you are going to fix it again.
Make a backup (copy) of your install directory and a database backup.
When you use mysql its nice to use phpmyadmin to make a backup.
Normally we just have an external copy in the home folder or something. And only modify it directly.
i know that the forum ist for everyone, and i know that there ist a detailed upgrade desciption in the documentation.
only want to tell you that there are stupid users like me out there :-) and maybe the installer get an update someday with this
warning
But now serious,
why overwrites the installer traccar.xml during the install? is it not possible to check on the installation/update
if there is a traccar.xml? i mean this file is for custom settings right?
PS: usually i do have a backup but this time my copy was a old version before i switched from internal DB to mySQL.
I actually never do a upgrade. I just install a new version in its own directory.
Toni, it should be possible. You are welcome to send us a pull request with this change.
When i upgrade software i read every time this in documentation and all work: https://www.traccar.org/upgrading-traccar/
Hey °Anton, ;-)
is ist possible to WARN an dumb ass idiot user during the Windows Installer that an Update of Windows Traccar-Server ovewrites the traccar.xml
I´m such an Idiot and it happends allready multiple times in my traccar history that i stupidly clicked the Update and voila... my traccar.xml with all my settings is gone! and of course i DONT have an backup of my latest version modified of traccar.xml ;-) shit happens...
greetings
Toni
