TK-905 detect car start/stop

Hello,

I have bought a TK-905 and after reading the documentation it seems I can get an alert whenever the car start moving by:

  1. Setup admin number
  2. Send sleep123456 shock

According to the documentation, the device will be awaked by sms/call and shock detection. If the admin number is set, it will acquire the GPS location and send it over a SMS message. That is good to detect the start condition and position.

The problem I have is figuring out how to detect car stopping.

With the above setup, after the initial shock detection, the TK-905 will:

  1. Stay awake, GPS is on
  2. If shocks are detected no further SMS will be sent to admin number
  3. If no shocks for 5 or more minutes, device returns to sleep mode, GPS off

Now, that's not exactly great. First of all, after the initial awake condition, what is the point to keep the GPS on if no further SMS are to be sent? Of course, I can send a SMS to ask for current position but why to keep the GPS on otherwise baffles me. Device can turn GPS on and acquire position if SMS or call is received whilst awake. That should preserve power. One will argue it does that if APN is used but my setup is with 'nogprs' command which disables it. Unless under this condition it does not keep GPS on? Anyone knows?

The second issue is detecting STOP condition. According to docs, device will return to sleep if no shock for 5 minutes. But it does not send a SMS when this condition is met.

Any idea how to receive a SMS when car stops moving?

Thanks.

If your device is moving then logicly it should keep sending the position to the server at the interval that you have set. How else should you be able to see route history without the device sending its position to the server?

As I have said, I am not using GPRS and I am not interested in having live data being sent to a server but receive SMS notifications instead.

Consider the scenario where battery preservation is paramount and all user wants to know are car's start and stop positions, not in-between.

In my opinion it would be cheaper to just use data, you would have live updates and start / stops in your app and could also use it with whatsapp / telegram push messages. Just connect the device to the car battery and you wont have to worry about your power consumption either. Good luck with it.

Of course it would be much easier to use it 24/7 connected to car power supply but my scenario is about battery powered where continuous usage of GPRS is a totally no go.
