TK-162

evdende57a day ago

The TK-162 is a simple usb gps navigation device. Produced in China.
Basicly the device is doing its job and one could assign a dummy imei number.
The device comes without software, app or 'a terminal' to adjust or edit settings.
I spend quite a lot of time figuring out traccar.

3 issues i cannot figure out.

  • which protocol to use for this device
  • which port to use in the setup for this device
(In every new setup the device shows as
    offline on traccar after
    http://myRpiipadress:8082)
  • when adding the device on traccar will just
tk162 and a dummy imei (12 digits) do the
    connecting job?

The troubleshooting is not conclusive.

Thanks.

Since it is a usb device you should be able to capture the data that the device send with wireshark.

This way you can check what data the device sends to the server from the computer/laptop that the usb gps is installed on.

Thank you for reaching out.
Let me try to get you right.
With wireshark i can find out which port the (simple) usb gps tracker device (attached to my my computer; it a raspberry pi) is using to get into the traccar server?

What protocol should i use in traccar.XLM ?

Thank you again.

What do you mean by a USB navigation device? Is it a GPS tracker that can report data via a network connection?

It is an usb gps tracking device. The tk-162.

What documentation have you read so far? We have several guides for you to start with.

I have literally read everything. Also the documentation on traccar about chinese clones and HEX; never seen anything about HEX in the raspberry logs). I think the setup should be simple without many customizations in my scripts on the raspberry. Not so. The TK-162 is a usb gps tracker device that works via a serial port ttyACM0. The rest is self-explanatory. I have only seen the thing offline on the traccar server. I have also tried all kinds of ports in traccar.xlm. So well, stop and try something else or.......

What ports have you tried and how did you configure the device to use those ports?

evdende57a day ago

The device cannot be configured. The traccar.service and traccar.xlm can be 'configured'.
You pointed me to "troubleshoot" pages. The usb gpr tacker tk162 is obviously a Chinese 'clone' and i tried all the ports mentioned in troubleshooting eg. 5001, 5002, 5003 etc.
I tried the setup 20 times and never got the tk162 on traccar online.

If the device cannot be configured how did you try all the ports? Those are contradicting statements.

I edited the scripts traccar.xlm (raspberry pi).
You do know if you enter http://ipadress:8082 with your smartphone or your pc (for the remote desktop on the Rpi) not the gps tracker but the pc or laptop location is in the traccar server. (not the setup on the Rpi)

If you haven't configured your device, why do you expect it to send some data to Traccar? I'm getting very confused here.

Are you sure you have read the basic documentation we have on the website? For example this:

https://www.traccar.org/quick-start/

You have to configure your device to report data to Traccar. Traccar won't do it for you.

My tk-162 is not on the list. So i do not know the port.
The only configuration possible is in the scripts of traccar. In any case nit in or with ny device. Thank you.

We don't know the port, which is why you have to try several common ports. But that doesn't change the fact that you have to configure your device to report data to those ports.
