Editing devices shouldn't cause any issues. Failures during deletion means that the device you are trying to delete has too many linked records (positions and events). You might need to delete those manually to avoid timeout.

A system that has more than 550 devices displays a communication failure error when deleting or editing some devices. and the device does not delete.
