I just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved in Traccar - it's brilliant and I really appreciate the work done.
I've been using it self-hosted for a few months now, and after some small issues to begin with it has been 100% reliable - both the server and the clients. The memory and cpu requirements are tiny, there's no bloat and no advertising. The android apps do exactly what's needed. My ISP uses CGNAT, so I'm using a free Cloudflare tunnel to allow the clients to phone home.
We have a small setup - just my wife and myself, but as each of us goes off and does high-risk activities by ourselves (she horse riding, me motorbiking) it's incredibly reassuring to know where each other is. We used Life360-free before, which is still pretty good if heavy on the upsell, but unlimited geofences in traccar and a desktop web interface makes it far more useful even at this small scale. She's off now, driving her horse to a training session. I can see she's moving and will get a notification when she arrives. If she breaks down, I'll know where she is.
I kinda wish I still had a job where there was a fleet of vehicles - it would be very cool to see dozens of moving vehicles.
