I have just switched reverse geocoding from opencage to locationiq (departed google a waaays back). At first glance, the reverse geocoding is doing a much better job identifying U.S. "unincorporated census designated places", that is, small towns under county government.
Also locationiq is free up to 5,000 hits per day.
