TK206, & Logs

Hi,

I've got a device that says it's a TK206, but not having any joy getting GPS location from it.
Using port 5002, I get some connection and from the logs the decoded ASCII is ->

(087073061271BP00352887073061271HSO0185)

And the traccar responds with ->

(087073061271AP01185)

To me it looks like it's doing a valid handshake, but that's it, the above just repeats, and no INFO GPS location appears. I know the device has a GPS lock, as if I do a 666# command it's smack on.

Any ideas?.
I've tried changing to port 5001, not had any response yet so waiting here.

Regards

Keith..

Ok, I think I might not have been patient.

After changing to 5001, another message appeared that looked like a GPS location, I think if I had left at port 5002 it would work.

Indeed leaving as 5002 did the trick,.. I've found doing a stats update 902# kicked started a GPS location. The vehicle in question is stationary, so I assume it's not sending GPS location's often, but doing a 902# seemed to wake it up.

This is a very common mistake. People see that device responds with location in SMS message, so they assume that device has a GPS fix. Very often it's not the case. Device can be sending old location via SMS, but not sending any location or sending zero coordinates over GPRS. I have seen it too many times.

It's GPS location was smack on, within 5 meters I would say.

I think my mistake was thinking that the TK206 sends a location every time, but I can now see that if stationary its only sending a keep alive every 3 mins, as soon as the vehicle is moving it's sending a full Lat/Lng message every 15 seconds.

Thanks for an easy setup.. I've sent a small donation.

Hi kpjcomp . I am using a TK206 tracker recently. The followint text is a stream received from the tracker: (087073070777BR00160928A0443.2052N07401.6377W000.4115638000.0001000000L000450AB) . Could you explain the message format to me?, or do you have any document with details of the TK206 protocol?

Hi,

I got the documentation from this site, https://www.traccar.org/protocols/
I selected the TK103 as that seems to be pretty similar.
So for example looking at your message it appears to be an alarm message.
Of type Vehicle Robbery SOS,. done on the 28th September 2016, with a lat of 04,43.2052 and lng of 07401.6377
Did you press the SOS button by any chance?.
