Review - RasberryPI4 8GB

Just wanted to write a mini review for our new tracking server. We always used to run multiple servers "onsite" and traccar sat on one of these, along with multiple other applications. All these other applications have now been moved to a docker cloud environment, so seemed a waste to keep one of these servers on just for traccar.

After a long wait we had a 8gb pi4 arrive. Installed Ubuntu server and then traccar in maybe 30mins, re-routed traffic to it and its working great. Only using about 400mb of ram and less than 1% CPU. SQL is on another server, so just acting as an SQL client. 35 devices connected, all vehicles with frequent updates. Just wanted to share some feedback of a real world install in case others were also considering.

It would be interesting to see how a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB would handle an application and a SQL database on the same server.

Maybe someone has a Raspberry Pi 4 where the database and the application are on the same server - what is the load then?

Using SQLITE this would not be an issue, but I would still probably go for the 8gb as the memory needed to perform upgrades and other SQL tasks, as well as running the OS and traccar may struggle with just 4gb.

I've got the whole setup (Traccar + DB) including 15 trackers in docker.
DB = image: yobasystems/alpine-mariadb

System load [3.21] [3.75] [3.79], must admit total amount of dockers on that 8GB Pi4 = 31.
Still going strong.
