I also noticed this in 5.1 and eagerly upgraded to 5.2 yesterday in the hope that it was fixed.
Alas I am still seeing multiple notifications for a single event

Then it's probably a different issue. I would recommend submitting a ticket on GitHub with details on how to reproduce.
i also experienced this. What i did was remove TCP.timeout settings in my config file. and it fixed the problem.
You should try same if you had earlier configured a protocol timeout in your settings.
No TCP timeout options were set, but I did solve this.
My notifications were set to "All devices" and in addition I had assigned the notification to each device. Probably done in a "belt & braces" approach to getting notifications working when first set up.
Under these circumstances, removing the "All devices" option from the notifications fixed the multiple sending experienced from V 5.1/5.2
Does this warrant logging an issue? My conclusion was "probably not" when the workaround is so trivial.
I believe the issue you're talking about is already fixed.

in version 5.1 I get every notification several times by email and sms. In v5 it was once per notification.
