Advices to choose a good hosting

Hi Anton,
I hope you're doing fine, I found a lot of topics in traccar Forum about traccar Hosting, but none could answer my questions.
For +500 devices with reporting interval of 10 seconds, users could login any time of the day to check the location of their device and we can't afford any downtime.

  • It is better to get a Cloud or VPS Hosting? - based on quality and price -
  • If you have an idea about the price it would be really helpful.

And please take on consideration that the device number is on growth, the solution need to be scalable.
From your own experience, what solution should we go for?

Hello,

Here is some feedback based on my experience with Traccar over the past decade.

  1. VPS works for most use cases with Traccar
  2. As for downtime, there is no guarantee with any service provider of zero downtime. You can always have your own fallback/backup deployed.
  • In my experience, VPSdime and OVH have faired well in terms of service availability.
  1. For pricing you can refer to their website, VPSDime, OVH, or even Digital Ocean
  2. A fairly good VPS such as the "VD36GB7" by VPSDime can easily handle between 4000 to 7000 devices. (Check out Traccars Optimization guide)

The only limitation you should watch out for is the "storage / disk space" offered by these providers, you may want to plan that well in ahead of deployment.

Hi SwayDev,

Thank you for answering my questions, I checked for VPSdime and read some reviews as well, it seems that they have very good prices but leak on the fact that they don't have protection vs DDOS Attack and not supporting Docker. - I apologize that I didn't mention Docker in the topic but it will be nice if the Hosting support it -

Thanks again, that was helpful.

You are welcome, which is why I also mentioned 2 other options. OVH has a fairly good DDOS mitigation and isolation system, Digital ocean supports docker if am not wrong.

And you can always use third-party DDOS protection services over any host you prefer.
