Problem
I'm searching for a device, but I can't find any that fits my needs. Accuracy and low temperature are very rare to come together it seems.
What help I look for
I don't want someone that do all this search for me, but I guess some people may have more experiences than me and could recommend (or warn me) me some device they tried. Or if there is a better way of choosing, that would be great too.
What I have tried
- I went trough the list on traccar website and did random search, but there is a lot of devices and very few that fit my needs, so it was not a good technique.
- I searched on amazon, but it's often binded with other apps and i'm not sure if it can work with traccar
- I searched on Alibaba, but I'm not sure about quality and it's often odb, rarely accurate, and never for low temperature. Plus they often need to buy 10 or 100 minimum.
- I search on google for reviews etc., but it's hard for me to find all these information and when I find them, it never fits.
- I investigated about creating my own device (using pcbway or something like that), and it's still an option, but I'm a programmer, I do not have the skill. I can learn them, but it will be a very hard job I think, so it's not my first option.
My guess
My guess is that the accuracy is approximate and rounded to less accurate. It's probably easy to get better accuracy than what specified (3-5 meters instead of 10-15). Same thing with low temperature, I live in Canada, and winter can be rough, it will not operate under 20 degrees often, but it can happen for a couple days per months. Is it that bad to not respect the min -20 specification?
Most important requirements
- Can operate under low temperature (-35)
- No ODB or ODB 2 required
- Under 5m accuracy
Other requirement
- Good coverage (4g if possible)
- Can operate while connected to a power source (via usb or other)
- Alarm and voice recording not needed (preferably not on device for cost optimisation)
- Good battery life
- Good price (under 100$ US)
Thank you for ready, I hope you can help me, best regards.
Good battery life and low temperature are not compatible. Can't have both :)
Thank you for you answer Anton, is it possible to have a medium battery life and low temperature then?
You can place the tracker inside the habitacle and keep it more time under ideal operative conditions.
