Tracking a Simple Phone

Mark Bailey5 years ago

I am wondering if anyone has looked at using a simple phone like a Nokia 3310 or Nokia 800 Tough or similar for tracking via Traccar.
The reason I ask is that, for our use case, we have tested Remora and Remora 2 with patchy and unreliable results.

We need to get position data far more regulary than those devices can provide. We will be tracking a Train and in testing the Remoras, we would need to make Waypoint Geofences, like, 10km in diameter otherwise the train would be going to fast to register an entry or an exit of the geofence.

However, when testing a Mobile phone, the result was perfect... continuous positions and we could reduce a Geofence down to something like 500m and still register entry and exit of the Geofence.

So, the issue is now to find a phone that....

  1. Can be used with Traccar.
  2. Longest possible battery life. Days, not hours (no possibility of external power)
  3. Does not need to be a smart phone

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanx in Advance
