"database.registerUnknown" - you can set to "true" to register unknown devices
"database.registerUnknown.defaultCategory" (optional) - specify device category
"database.registerUnknown.defaultGroupId" (optional) - specify group for the device

in the file "default.xml"?

It still works, but you shouldn't use default xml.
