Help with Sierra Wireless and Traccar Server

henmill9 years ago

Hello,

I am having trouble getting a device to show up in Traccar. I have a PTZ trailer with a Sierra Wireless GX440 that is sending TAIP GPS reports every 1 minute. I am actually using another Sierra GX440 on my PC to give me a static public IP and port forwarding abilities (my place of work has a very complex network and the IT Dept basically won't work with me to let in outside traffic).

More to the point, I am seeing my device in the tracker-server log file, and I think I have all of the network settings correct, but I cannot get anything out of the Traccar interface. I feel like I must be missing something on the Traccar configuration side of things. I am only looking to see basic Lat/Lon info, and maybe previous Lat/Lon history.

Has anyone had luck getting a Sierra device to show up in Traccar?

Thanks for any help!

Henry

Some more details:

I have port 5031 opened on my Sierra GX440 that is acting as my modem, forwarded to my PC's local IP. I also have 5031 opened in Windows Firewall both TCP and UDP. However, I just found out that the port checker on this website is telling me my port is closed...

And here is a line from the tracker-server.log file:
2015-09-14 13:55:33 DEBUG: [B874930C: 5031 < 166...***] HEX: 3e52505636383132372b333436373139362d303932333738373030303030303033323b2a37453c

The IP matches that of my test device and decoding the HEX gives the lat/lon coordinates of my test device. These messages come in every 1 minute (as they should because of how I configured the Sierra).

I just don't understand how to get this data to show up on the Traccar web interface. I am using the IMEI number from the device as the Identifier.

The problem is that your device doesn't send any identifier in the message. There must be a way to include an id.

Hm. I know there are a few types of TAIP reports I can send with the sierra. I'm at home now, but I believe they are: TAIP data, Compact TAIP, and two or so others. I tried them all today, and I think one type included a longer message than the rest. Tomorrow I'll see if I can decode an identifier out of it and report back.

Thanks!

Ok, I've tried the four options for TAIP reports in my Sierra, and none of them seem to send an ID. Here is a screenshot of my GPS config page, with all available options for GPS protocols shown in the drop down. Would any of these other protocols be supported?

It turns out there was another option under global settings to input my own unique 4-character ID. Now that I have done that it is working!

Thanks for the great open source program!

From the options on the screenshot NMEA format might work as well. It's supported under T55 protocol (port 5005).

Good to know! Thanks Anton.
