Device Recommendation

i'm looking for a device for a food truck. all i care about is gps tracking. i need a device that can be completely unattended (doesn't need to be turned on after the battery dies or anything, will just automatically restart when power is applied).

i also want 3g as i understand 2g is going away.

i don't want it locked to a service, i want to be able to use my own sim and server to handle the location updates.

last requirement is i need to be able to buy it fast and i want to buy only one at a time.

any suggestions?

I think most of the 3G devices would satisfy your requirements. You can try to search forum for recommendations on 3G GPS trackers. I know that there are at least a couple of thread on the topic.

yeah... i have checked out a number of the other threads. are you saying most won't fit what part of my requirements? ability to use with any service or ability to be completely unattended?

any recommendations on a 2g device? as i understand, i could use verison and tmobile for a couple more years.

I said most of the WILL FIT your requirements. Most or all GPS trackers are designed by work completely unattended.

oh... cause i got one that has a power button... and so it won't send unless you press that power button after it looses its battery...

it seems to me all the 3g devices i found available for purchase on amazon come with service which leads me to believe they are locked to a certain tracking service. is that mistaken thinking?

Of course sellers want to lock you into their own service, but I think most devices allow to change SIM and server. I guess it's better to confirm with the sellers if it's possible.

like locked phones, i guess...
