Why dont you just try it first?
Well, I'd rather not invest the time in the wrong method if there is another clear best method. How do you provide remote access yourself?

I am not to worried to expose a port / ip. There are many ways to protect acces.
Use cloudflared tunnel. Being using for some time now, no issues. this way you dont expose your server Ip. and also cloudflare is ssl. no need to install ssl.
@jay, just for my knowledge, do you also do that for tracker ports ?
@jay nice, thank you. I will try that. Is there anything special to be aware of for the setup, or is it straightofrward?
I notice very few posts within the self hosted & homelab communities wrt. Traccar. I see far more mentions of Owntracks. For me, Traccar seems like an excellent solution, I do wonder why I see so few forum/reddit/YouTube posts referring to it.
Only put in the traccar IP and porr. The user interface. But you must install the cloudflare connector in the traccar server.
Hello,
I am new to Traccar,. I have installed it on my Proxmox server as an LXC container, and I must say that it works very well. I am currently tracking two phones, it's flawless when the phones are connected to the network by VPN.
I am considering better options to provide remote access. I notice that some people use nginx reverse proxy, and some just open the ports. Does anybody use Tailscale or Cloudflare Tunnel? Are these also good options to consider? are there are pros and cons to the aforementioned options?
Thanks, I appreciate the help.
