@Mictrack my Tracker arrived and i wanted to order a sim. i noticed 1nce is for companies only, so im looking for an alternativ. Did you know if a Soracom sim would work with the MT700? Or do you know any other alternatives for europe? (thingsmobile would be an option, but im looking for some cheaper options)

From the Soracom docs:
Please check with the device manufacturer to ensure the device supports the following:

  • The device can be used with roaming SIM cards, and can register to a roaming network.
  • The device is capable of performing a network scan and automatically registering to an available network.
  • The device can receive SMS from and send SMS to 6-digit phone numbers.

I also stumbled across Simbase, looks nice pricing wise. You guys also got any info about using this card with your MT700 ?

@Markus For the SIM cards for MT700, just make sure they support CAT M1 or NB-IoT, and there will be no problem.

We still think 1NCE SIM card is better. As far as I know, while 1NCE requires company information to be entered, it is not mandatory, and verification is not required. Therefore, most end customers use their own names instead.

@Mictrack thank you, i guess i dont want to go the risk with the 1NCE sim, but i will think about it some days and then decide.

If Simbase or Soracom confirm support for CAT M1 or NB-IoT, then the MT700 will also work.

Yes, in this case they should work.

@Mictrack

I got the device running on my local traccar server with Mode 0 and T1 = 10s and T2 = 1h.
It works most of the time, but not that good as i expected, so i got some questions.

  1. Is it possible to deactivate the tow alarm? I got this when the device is reporting in T1 interval and the device is still in one place, i guess thats happen because of the inaccurate coords.

  2. My T2 ping wont work every hour, even the device is in the same place. Maybe it has issues to connect to the internet? (sometime the ping for hour x comes additionaly to the next ping)

  3. After the vibration hits and the device should wake up, it take up to 5 minutes until it starts to ping to the server. Can it be related to the GPS Search Duration?

  4. What happens if no GPS Signal was found? What data will be sent? And will the GPS search continue while pinging on interval T1?

Unfortunately my testrun inside my car for half an hour wasnt successfully. The first 4-5minutes are proper send. And the last 3 minutes aswell. But there no data in between for about 20 minutes. :(

@Markus

  1. When the device stops, it will check for a few minutes. If no vibration is detected, it will go back to sleep.

  2. Waking up the device takes time to access the network and search for GPS. This depends on the network signal. If you stop the car outside, it will connect and report faster. If inside, it may take longer.

  3. By default, the device searches for GPS for up to 2 minutes. If no GPS is found, it reports invalid data. If you want a longer search time (e.g., 5 minutes), you can change it using the "DUR" command.

By the way, did you test inside or outside? If inside, the GPS and network signals are weaker, which may cause connection issues.

Our engineer will share a document to help you better understand how Mode 0 works.

Thank you for the document, that explains a lot. :)

  1. Thats quite weird, because if the car is at the same spot the whole night, sometimes its able to ping and sometimes not.
    Today the first ping comes in after 20 min of driving (~15km). Inside my dashboard for the sim card i can see that it got a connection.
    Even the last night it got an lte-m connection and no ping at all was received.
    I dont know if this is a probleme with the device or the sim card. :/
    I tested the same route with the traccar client on my smartphone, which works perfect.

And yes, the test is outside.
