Success: Using Traccar notification channel to forward to Twilio WhatsApp

matlia month ago

Dear all,

I know that the topic concerning WhatsApp integration has been discussed many times here before. I would like to share a procedure allowing to succesfully divert all outgoing Tracccar SMS notification channel messages to WhatsApp. The instructions do have some requirements such as listed below. If you make these changes you will not be able to use sending SMS messages since all outgoing Traccar SMS messages will be diverted to WhatsApp via the Twilio WhatsApp API. No changes are required in the Traccar source. You will only need to modilfy the Traccar configuration file as explained in the documentation.

1.) Twilio account WITH:
- a registered WhatsApp number as sender number
- a registered phone number able to receive SMS messages
2.) Ubuntu + Python3 Installation (e.g. on AWS Lightsail, Ubuntu 24.04, 4G, 2CPU, 80GB SSD)
3.) Have root access or user with sudo privileges
4.) Free ngrok account
5.) Patience and time

Details can be found here:

Hope it is fine that I post the link here as it is too much effort to add all the information and images well formated here in the forum. In case the link is not permitted please let me know and I'll try to make relevant changes or feel free to make use of the material provided. Please refer to the provided disclaimer in the documentation file.

Happy to support questions ONLY here in this forum. Please respect the forum rules and do not message me directly unless permitted to.

Best,
Christian

Thanks Adriano!

I was trying to post an update by could not because of an forum "forbidden" message. I need to post the message as a screenshot instead. Not sure why "forbidden" since my formating was/is correct.

Forbidden probably because you have an email address.
