Traccar 4.2

Traccar GPS tracking server version 4.2 is available for download.

As some of you already know, for this release we mostly focused on fixing issues introduced in version 4.1 and making a stable server for everyone to upgrade to. Fixes include, but not limited to:

• Custom map URL encoding
• Device id issues when using HTTP proxy for devices
• Time range issues with reports
• Excel export problems on Windows machines

In addition to fixes and improvement in existing features, there are two small, but important and long awaited new features:

• Support for alarm notification filtering. Now it's possible to filter device alarms to only the ones that you need. It was possible to implement similar logic earlier with computed attributes, but now it's much easier to do directly from notification configuration dialog.
• Support for HTTP API for SMS notificiations. It includes such popular services as Twilio and BulkSMS. For more information on this feature please read corresponding documentation page. The configuration is flexible enough to support most of the common HTTP and REST APIs.

There is also one new GPS protocol added to Traccar system. It's called XRB 28. Unfortunately not much information is available about the vendor and devices that use this protocol.

On an unrelated note, recently Kristof Beiglböck published a book called GPS Tracking with Java EE Components: Challenges of Connected Cars. It is about building GPS tracking system using Java. The book has a lot of technical information on how systems like Traccar work under the hood.
